About Enid.

Most folks call me Dimples.

My name is Enid Knightner. It means pure of heart. People stumble over it the first time and then they don't, and I would rather you learn it than that I change it.

Enid, circa 1967

I was four years old when my father died.

He was there one night and gone the next day. A child does not have the words for that, but a child notices everything — who cries, who whispers, who suddenly cannot find a piece of paper that turns out to matter enormously.

Because of him, my family talked about death. Openly, at the kitchen table, at a time when most families would not say the word out loud. That has turned out to be one of the great gifts of my life, and it is the reason I can sit in a room where nobody wants to be and keep the conversation going. So, pull up a chair and let's get started.

Then I spent ten years watching it happen to other families.

In December 2016 I opened Faithful Home Care Solutions. Since then my team and I have cared for hundreds of people in their own homes. I have walked families from the first troubling symptom all the way through to the repast. One gentleman I cared for from his twenties until he passed, ten years later.

That work put me at the bedside on the worst day of a lot of people's lives. And I kept seeing the same thing.

The family is grieving and guessing at the same time. Nobody knows where the policy is. Nobody knows who is allowed to sign. A daughter is standing in a hospital corridor being asked a question about her mother's care that her mother could have answered years ago, if anybody had asked.

Then comes the GoFundMe for the funeral. I have never once seen that without thinking: this was preventable.

Where the name came from.

Be Ready came to me while I was sleeping, and it comes from Matthew 24:44a "Therefore be ye also ready."

The verse is about a day and an hour nobody knows. That is exactly the argument I make in every room I stand in. You do not get to pick the day. You only get to pick whether you were ready for it.

If that scripture means something to you, then you already understand this work. If it does not, the practical argument stands entirely on its own, and you are just as welcome at my table.

None of us are going to live forever. You have people depending on you when you leave this earth.

How I work.

  • I come to you. Your kitchen table, your living room, wherever you are comfortable. I bring the paperwork.
  • I tell you the truth. Including when the honest answer is that you need a licensed attorney rather than me.
  • I do not rush you and I do not baby you. Direct and loving are not opposites. I learned that from watching my own family do it well.
  • We finish. Not started, not thought about. Signed, notarized, and somewhere your family can actually find it.

Who I work with.

I keep a small network of trusted professionals so you are never handed a phone book and wished luck: a licensed insurance broker, a traveling notary, a realtor who understands downsizing into assisted living or if you want to sell your home, a banker who can assist you with exploring home equity loans, and attorneys for the estates that need one.

One call. Fifteen minutes. A plain answer.

I will listen, tell you honestly whether I can help, and quote you a price. That is the whole call.

Where Pennsylvania law requires a licensed attorney, Enid will tell you so plainly and help you find the right person.
